Religious education (Elementary& PreSchool)
WHAT IS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (aka CCD)? These are classes for students – mainly public school children ages 4 year through 6th grade- who wish to deepen their faith through understanding and appreciation of Catholicism and the Sacraments. Religious Educaiton strengthens the child’s relationship with Christ.
St. Louis de Montfort Parish has a large Religious Education Program. Besides serving those families in the immediate area, we have programs in Los Alamos and Sisquoc. In addition, there is a Hhispanic Program held on Tuesday nights. We currently have an enrollment of 400 children, ages 4 year through 6th grade in both our English and Spanish programs. In addition, we have volunteer staff of 50-60 adults and teens working as catechists and assistants in the classroom. We also work closely with homeschooled children and parents.
CLASS TIMES: Classes are held on Wednesdays from 3:45 – 5 and Thursdays from 6 – 7:15pm. Our First Communion Program is a two year, mandatory program, beginning as early as first grade.
Besides instruction in the Catholic faith each week, additional activities include receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, attending Mass, Stations of the Cross, Lenten Food Drive, Operation Christmas Child, Christmas Celebratios, Ash Wednesday Services, and May Crowning as well as other activities during the year
During the summer, we run a highly successful and fun-filled vacation bible camp.
REGISTRATION: begins the Tuesday after Labor Day in September and runs year-round, except the first and second grade, whose registration ends the second week of October. Forms can be downloaded under OUR PARISH and then clicking PARISH REGISTRATION FORMS.
TEACHING TOUCHING SAFETY PROGRAM: mandated by the Archdioces of Los Angeles in 2006, the students in Kindergarten through 6th grade of the Religious Education Program attend a ONE hour session on child safety during the first part of the year. This program is NOT a sex education session and is not intended to be a substitute for the responsibility of the parents in educating their children in the areas of human sexuality and love. Rather, through these programs, we are helping to reinforce to your child those things you have already taught them regarding ways to protect themselves and to resist overtures of persons in the community who may want to prey on them. Session topics include boundaries, ways to protect yourself, internet safety, grooming, safe adutls and safe touches. Parents are able to “opt out” of this session at the time of registration.
The Religious Education Program and volunteers do their best, with the help of our Lord’s grace, to make your child a well-rounded individual in all aspects of life.
