St. Louis de Montfort Parish is blessed to have 9 men - husbands, fathers, grandfathers and men of faith -who have answered the call to be ordained as a Deacon, dedicating themselves to the mission of the Church.

Deacon Doug Halvorsen was ordained a deacon 21 years ago. He graduated from Oregon in 1964 and retired from teaching art at Righetti High School after 39 years. He is a father of four, a grandfather of eight and great grandfather of two. Deacon Doug, along with his wife Natalie, is the wedding coordinator at St. Louis, teaches the Baptism parent class, trains and schedules lectors, helps with altar server training, and organize the annual parish coat drive in October. Their motto is "pro deo hominibusque": in service of God and mankind.

Deacon Shawn Vedro was born in Eureka CA March 5, 1957. Moving to the Fresno area as an adolescent, he attended a private Catholic boys school in Sonoma and went on to Justin Sienna High School in Napa. He served in the USAF from 1976-1978 and studied Early Childhood Development/Sociology at Fresno City College. Deacon Shawn has been married for 25 years to Helen, is the father of 3 and the grandfather of 10. In 1996 he and his wife Helen moved to Santa Maria where he became involved in St. Louis de Montfort Parish. He is self employed as a wood craftsman at Trinity Wood Design and is a Live Scan Operator (aka fingerprinter) for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He is highly involved at the parish as a religious education teacher, Safeguard the Children committee member, VIRTUS Facilitator, Community Evangelization and Social Justice ministries, and the parish pilgrimage and festival. Deacon Shawn was ordained as a deacon on June 16, 2007.
